Episode 7: Escaping the Cult of the New

The Cult of the New is everywhere and they’ve infiltrated the ranks of Punched and Played. We discuss how we conceptualize the Cult of the New in the domain of board games, the impact this has had on our own gaming, and how we plan to distance ourselves from its clutches. We also introduce the start of the Board Game Book Club, a community devoted to playing a selected game of the month while sharing thoughts on the experience over repeated plays. Our first book club game is Pandemic, and you have a chance to win June’s game, Castles of Burgundy, if you choose to participate. As always, we wrap things up with the Punch List, which tasks us with choosing our favorite dice game. And when we mean dice, we mean just dice (though a cup for rolling the dice is allowed). Plus Clint is on the edge of lucidness, Jonathan may or may not bellow out an impulsive yell in response to a die roll, and Shawn admits that he has a problem.
